Misztal Images is a way of bringing photographs out of hard drives, negative sleeves and old folders, and into a more considered space.
I am a photographer based in Wollongong, NSW, working across digital and 35mm film photography.
My interest in photography has developed over many years through travel, family life, local places and the habit of carrying a camera. Some images come from planned trips. Others come from quieter moments — a familiar coastline, changing weather, old negatives, or a scene that stays in the mind.
This site is a personal archive rather than a commercial portfolio in the traditional sense. It brings together landscapes, travel photographs, local images, older digital work and scanned film. The aim is simple: to give the photographs a place to live.
I use a mix of digital and film cameras, including Nikon full-frame bodies, older digital cameras, a Nikon FM 35mm film camera and an Epson scanner for bringing negatives into the archive. The equipment matters, but only as part of the process. The image remains the focus.
My approach is quiet and observational. I am drawn to natural light, atmosphere, memory and place — images that do not need to explain everything, but leave something for the viewer to sit with.
Approach
Landscapes, coastlines, streets and travel images shaped by where they were made.
Natural light, weather, shadow and atmosphere are central to the work.
Older images, scanned film and personal archives sit alongside newer work.
Digital files, 35mm film and scanned negatives all form part of the archive.
Cameras & Archive
The archive includes photographs made with the Nikon D850, Nikon D750, Nikon D700, Pentax K-r and Nikon FM 35mm film camera, along with scanned film work using an Epson scanner.
Each camera brings a slightly different way of working, but the intention remains the same: observe carefully, keep the image honest, and let the place speak for itself.
